The new Left politics under a Labour government
I have an article today for Byline Times on the prospects for a Labour government and for the left.
Politics in Britain is at a staging post in which everyone knows the Tories are going to lose. We waiting for it to happen. An impasse in British society as a whole is also reflected in the politics of the Labour Party and the labour movement. Keir Starmer exercises dominance over the structures and policy of the Labour party; and the labour movement to a large extent is simply waiting for a change in government.
But, however contradictory it may seem, the formation of a Labour government under the politics of the Starmer leadership is now an inevitable step in breaking down the dominance of those politics within the labour movement and wider population.
