1. #DemandBetter - Demonstrate tomorrow
Tomorrow trade unionists will demonstrate in central London in a march and rally called by the TUC, against a backdrop of a deepening cost of living squeeze and falling wages as inflation soars.
As the TUC points out, labour market figures show real pay is tumbling, now £17 per week lower than the 2008 level.
The severity of the squeeze is such that the measures announced by Rishi Sunak will not be enough to fend off the impact on millions of households. The Tories do not have a plan for long-term financial security - in particular, without real pay rises there will be, as Frances O’Grady has argued, a continual lurch from crisis to crisis.
This is why all people fighting to protect their jobs and pay deserve total support including those - like RMT workers - who take strike action.
Emma Forrest, the Assistant General Secretary of the National Education, has written for Modern Left on what educators will be demanding as they march tomorrow.
